How important is your smartphone to you? If you’re anything like me, I think losing my smartphone would stress me out a whole lot more than losing my wallet! If you had asked me the same question ten years ago though, the answer would have been very different. The point I’m trying to make is our smartphones are arguably the most important devices we carry around with us. We put so much information in them. We heavily rely on them to communicate with others via text, phone, email and social media and, to keep up with news within our social circles to international events. We have become so accustomed to getting the information we need and desire now.
Okay, so we’ve ascertained that smartphones are important to us, but let’s take it to the next level. How important are smartphones (not just yours, but everyone’s) to your business?
It’s not such a leap to imagine how many business leads you can acquire from people using their smartphones to search for your business in relation to a product or service you sell. So my next question to you, and, arguably the most important question of them all; is your website optimised for mobile devices?
If you answered ‘yes’ you can give yourself a pat on the back! If you answered ‘no’, then I beg you, please read on!
Everything is heading towards mobile. Everything is now mobile. If your business in any way relies on customers making bookings or reservations for services, placing phone orders or even online orders, quotes, telemarketing… then yes, mobile devices are important to your business.
So what’s the best way to assess what you need for a mobile optimised website? Pick up your own smartphone and look at your website! There are some keys points you need to take note of, such as how long does it take for your website to load? If it is any longer than 3 – 4 seconds, then you need to look at the speed of your site. Potential customers will not wait for any longer than those few seconds until they make up their mind to look elsewhere.
Once your website has loaded, how easy is it for you to navigate your site? Can you read the content or is it so tiny you need to drastically zoom in? Are your company details and Call To Action noticeable? Most importantly, put yourself in your customer’s shoes; if you were looking for your services and/or products, would you bother to navigate through the website?
If all of the above wasn’t enough to convince you, then this will certainly get you over the line. Google are now favouring websites which are mobile optimised, particularly if the Google Search is being done via a smartphone or mobile device. What this all comes back to is the user experience and, “…no matter how costly it is, if Google is updating its mobile algorithm, marketers will have to invest into a mobile-friendly strategy,” (Chen, 2015).
To make it as easy as possible for you, Google even has a Mobile-Friendly Test URL site, where you can enter your site’s URL to get analysed by Google. Yes, I thought it was rather thoughtful of them too. The analysis will then return results to let you know what areas you need to fix. For example (and to blow our own trumpet just a little bit) this is what we see when we enter the Get More Traffic URL.
So how can you get this? All you have to do is pick up the phone and give us a call at 1300 332 256, or, visit our website, no matter what device you happen to be using.
